What’s this business with AWG & SWG?
AWG means American Wire Gauge.
SWG means Standard Wire Gauge.
18g. AWG = 19g. SWG
20g. AWG = 20g. SWG
Don’t ask me why.

What is a Gauge?
If you take a piece of metal and draw it through a hole, it gets smaller. Then if you draw it through a smaller hole, it gets smaller. Every time you do this, the wire gets thinner and thinner. So, if you draw the wire 18 times, you get 18 gauge. If you do it 20 times, you get 20 gauge. Therefore, the bigger the number, the thinner the wire.

Why is “gauge” spelled differently from how it is pronounced?
No one knows.

WTF is Aspect Ratio anyway???
The aspect ratio, abbreviated as AR or A/R is the Inside Diameter I.D. divided by the thickness of the wire. This number tells you how many rings of the same gauge will fit inside the jump ring. So, if the AR is 4.8, that means you can fit 4 rings of the same gauge inside of the main ring.

What if the rings that go into the hole are of a different gauge from the main ring?
Just take the inside diameter of the main ring and divide it by the thickness of the other rings. Let’s say you have an 18g. ring with inside diameter of 4.8 and you’re hooking a bunch of 20g. rings inside of it. Look up the thickness of 20g. wire, which is .81mm.  Then do the math: 4.8  ÷  .81 = 5.9. So, five 20g. rings will fit inside the hole of the main ring.
